My Distraction

It’s in those quiet seconds that drift so sneakily into minutes that my mind wanders to you.

A glance away from the scene at hand to a blank spot on the wall sends me  to the intimacy we shared, in which I confessed that I needed you, and then you smiled and kissed away my unmet desires.

It’s in a random simple task that we may have once shared that I remember the caress of your hand on my own, the warmth in your pulse against mine.

A stolen look between smiling lovers in passing reminds me of your loving laugh, your too-rarely made smile that I can’t help but reflect just thinking about it.

It’s in these stolen moments from reality that my heart realizes what my brain cannot.

It’s in these dreamy distractions that I realize we are not whole alone anymore.
